Meet Buttercup: Spirited, Loyal, and Ready to Bloom in the Right Home

Buttercup’s story is one of resilience, loyalty, and a whole lot of heart.

She first arrived at the Raton Animal Shelter as a stray, and thanks to her bright mind and eager spirit, she was accepted into the Colorado Department of Corrections Inmate Canine Training Program. Buttercup excelled in her training and quickly won the hearts of her handlers.

After graduation, Buttercup found an adoptive home, but as a lively one-year-old with plenty of energy and curiosity, she proved to be more than her older adopter could keep up with. She was returned to us through no fault of her own — and has been waiting patiently ever since for someone who understands her zest for life and wants to share an unbreakable bond.

Buttercup thrives on trust and connection. Once she knows she’s truly yours, she will give you every ounce of love, loyalty, and playful devotion she has to offer. Our Director walks Buttercup often and says she’s ready — truly ready — for a fresh start with the right person or family.

Could that be you?

Come meet Buttercup at the Raton Animal Shelter. She might just be the best friend you’ve been waiting for.
