Protect Affordable Spay & Neuter in New Mexico

Your voice can make a difference for pets and families across our state.

In 2020, the New Mexico Legislature passed the Affordable Spay/Neuter Law (Senate Bill 57), creating a fund to help struggling families get their pets spayed or neutered. This funding has made a life-changing difference for thousands of pets and their people – right here in Colfax County, it provided $25,000 in 2023 to help spay and neuter over 250 dogs and cats.

Unfortunately, this law is set to expire on July 1, 2026, unless we take action to extend it.

States with similar programs have seen dramatic decreases in shelter intake and euthanasia rates. Keeping this law in place means continuing to prevent unwanted litters, reduce overcrowding in shelters, and ease the burden on families who love their pets but need a little help.

We invite you to add your name to the Change.org petition urging our legislators to continue funding this vital program:

You can also make a powerful impact by calling or writing your New Mexico Senator and Representative to let them know you support the continuation of Senate Bill 57 (the Low-Income Spay/Neuter Bill).

Visit the Change.org petition page for detailed information on how to contact your legislators, email the Governor’s Office, or get updates from the New Mexico Spay Neuter Network and Animal Protection Voters NM.

Together, we can protect affordable spay and neuter access and help keep New Mexico’s pets safe, healthy, and home.
