Some stories stay with us long after an adoption day has passed.
Thirteen years ago, Lucy left the Raton Humane Society and began a new life with a family who loved her completely. Recently, they reached out to let us know that their sweet girl had crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
While our hearts ache alongside theirs, our hearts are also filled with gratitude.
Every adoption carries the hope of a lifetime together. Lucy found exactly that. A family who treasured her, a home filled with love, and thirteen wonderful years surrounded by the people who became her whole world.
This is why we do what we do.
Lucy’s family graciously shared her story with us in their own words.
Lucy’s Story

“Sweet Lucy’s story began in Raton, New Mexico, where she was rescued by Mom and Dad while they were living in Aspen. What started as a rescue quickly became the beginning of a beautiful life filled with love, adventure, and happiness.
Together they made the journey to Dallas, where Lucy found her best life. She loved nothing more than chasing a tennis ball, snuggling with her best dog friends, and curling up beside Mom, Dad and brother Brady after a day of playing.
Lucy taught everyone around her that the greatest joys are often the simplest: love, family, and being together. Though her paws are no longer by our side, her sweet spirit, loyal heart, and the countless memories she gave us will stay with us forever.
Our sweet rescue girl wasn’t just a dog. She was family, and she will always be loved.”

Thank you, Sarah and family, for opening your hearts to Lucy and for sharing her with us once again.
Although thirteen years have passed since Lucy left our shelter, she has always been one of ours. Knowing she spent those years surrounded by love is the greatest gift a rescue could ever hope for.
Run free, sweet Lucy. You were deeply loved, and your story will continue to inspire others for years to come.
